About Us

It has been known and documented for many a year, just how therapeutic, companionship with 'man's best friend' can be. However, there are those in our community for whom the responsibility of caring for an animal is just not possible. Canine Concern provides a service whereby a dog and its owner visit these people and encourage physical contact with their animal.

Where might you visit? There are those in homes for the elderly; hospitals with long-stay wards for geriatric patients and mentally and physically disabled adults and children; hospices; living alone etc. all of whom who are no longer able to look after or are denied normal everyday contact with pets. These visits are much requested and more volunteers are constantly needed to cope with the ever-increasing demand. To find out about how you and your dog could take part in this rewarding work, take a look at the page titled 'Joining Us'. Or, to find out about how to receive a visit, look at the page titled 'Visiting You'.

Besides this valuable work Canine Concern actively promotes the importance of the relationship between people and dogs. By providing an understanding in all aspects of dog owning and training through informative educational literature, Canine Concern aims to teach children and adults alike the necessary skills needed to be responsible dog owners.
